Question:
Are there any people that carry "Disney" as a last name?
?

When I searched Wikipedia about the last name and there seem to be only few people with that last name and these few people belong to the same family as Walt Disney. Abigail Disney is the only Disney alive in the Disney family. I don't know if there are any other Disneys alive besides Abigail. So, my main question about all this is that are there some or many people that carry "Disney" as a last name whether they belong to the same family as Walt Disney or not and whether they're popular or not? Do any of you carry the same popular last name? I mostly ask that because it seems to me that apart from Disney, you can find same last names of all/many/some other popular people from other people whether they're popular or not or belong to same families or not. Thanks in advance for your answer(s)! :)

According to the website "How Many Of Me", there are 4,136 people in the U.S. with the Disney surname. That only counts adults, so there are surely others who are under 18.

The Disney spelling evolved from the name d’Isigny, a French name meaning "of Isigny." (Isigny was a fishing village in France, so people from there were "of Isigny"). When some of those folks moved to England during the middle ages, the spelling gradually changed to Disney, Dizney, Desney, and other variations. Not everyone from the village of Isigny was related to each other, even though they were all called d'Isigny/Disney. So not all Disneys living today are related to each other, either.

Forget surname hunting and before you rush to the internet and start looking for websites to find your ancestors. Do your groundwork first or you just won't know who you are looking for, where they are from and if who you do find are your ancestors or not, you will be lead down the raod of copy and paste, surname databases and that is nothing to do with your ancestors Read this first, http://familytimeline.webs.com/recordsinyourownhome.htm then.....

Collect all the information you have in your own home and in your living relations homes is the first place to start , its free and it will encourage your family to look for more and help you, it teaches you the principles and good habit of record research and the details you can find on records while there are still people alive to ask further questions of, which helps you later on as you are familiar with records, understand what can be found on them, you understand the importance of citing your research to prove what you have found and can generally see very clearly the very basic mistakes/errors that many people make by only trusting online resources, especially when one mistake can mean you are no longer researching your family.

In so far as your name it is VERY common, maybe not where you live, but it is English language, developed from the French language and French was spoken in the UK when surnames were being taken, it is a locational name and the French origin was developed from Gallo-Roman personal name "Isinius"and originates as Isigne Mar Bayeux, Normandy, France a place famous for its butter, that family lived/gave their name to Norton Disney which is in Lincolnshire UK, so a surname used extensively in that form in the UK from when surnames were taken 800 or so years ago

You're having the search engine problem

When you use a search engine, you only ever find the most famous example. So when you search Disney all the returns skews towards Walt Disney. The 2000 census says 3,495 put down Disney as a last name.

Ashley is right and deserves the Best Answer. The web site she used is

It is free, but has ferocious pop-ups.

Wikipedia is about famous or infamous people. It doesn't list ordinary people. You could have used the on-line phone books, but lots of people with that surname are unlisted, to keep the curious from calling and asking if they are related, and, if so, could they use their family connection to get a kid an audition.

https://familysearch.org/search/

had over 50,000 records for dead people named Disney. Walt is there, but so are a lot of ordinary people.

Walt is on the 1940 census as Walter E Disney, occupation motion picture producer, living in a home worth $40,000 at 4653 Wo**ling Way, in Los Angeles.

------------

Added later: That's 4653 Woking Way. His house sold recently for an undisclosed sum. Sothehby's still has the ad, though, (As of November 2014, at least) with a 20-picture slide show. It's quite a house.

the US social security death index has over 1400 persons with the name.. those being ones who have died since about 1960. Nothing to do with how many are living... but there are many, and certainly all of them are not related to Walt.

Wikipedia is not a reliable source for how many persons of a name are living.
