To delete a person "My Tree" in Ancestry.com:

Click "Edit profile"

At the top right is a "Delete *name*" link. Click it. - It's located under the "Help" link and has a garbage can icon next to it.

How can I remove or edit a file I have submitted to the Ancestry World Tree?

Removing Your File

To delete a file that you have added to the Ancestry World Tree through your Online Family Tree, simply select the Remove link (or the icon). If neither this link nor this icon is accessible, you will most likely see a Submit link (or the icon). If this is the case, the file is not currently submitted to the Ancestry World Tree. If you select the Delete link (or the icon), your file will be removed from both the Ancestry World Tree and your list of Online Family Tree files.

How do I edit my Ancestry Online Family Tree?

Removing Individuals

To delete a person from the family tree, highlight the name by holding your cursor over the name and right-clicking. From the menu running along the top of the window (not from the pop-up menu that appeared after right-clicking), choose Edit and then Delete Individual from the Edit menu items. When prompted, click OK to confirm the deletion. (IMPORTANT: This operation cannot be undone.)

No way are all records online. Documentation is very important in genealogy. Some family lines are better documented than others. There are courthouse records, cemetery inscriptions, historical libraries, church records, etc. If you pay for a subscription to Ancestry.Com to obtain records, what you are paying for is a convenience. It saves you from traveling all over the country and obtaining those partiular records yourself, paying for hotel or motel expense, eating out expense and gasoline expense. Since they are not all online, you have to do some traveling and letter writing. However, you are corredt at being skeptical when a person makes claims without documents to back it up. Thirty years ago I felt it was great that so many people were getting into genealogy. Sharing of information would help everyone. Although the internet has been helpful in providing a lot of documents it is not the only source of documentationl. People have been doing genealogy long before the internet. Also, too many people think the family trees submitted to various websites are gospel fact and they are not. There are errors in online submittted trees. You might see different info on the same people from different subscribers. Then you will see repeatedly the same info on the same people from different subsribers. That is no guarantee it is correct. A lot of people are copying without verifying. You can make up a family tree and it will be accepted by any of the family history websites, free or not free. Those websites have absolutely no way of verifying all the information in family trees.

Click to highlight the person you want to remove. Up at top left click edit, then from the drop down menu click Delete Person. Follow instructions.

The person will go away from the tree you're working on on your screen immediately, and from the view seen by others within 24 hours (ancestry's next update).

(An option that's come up a few times is simply to write over the page when the wrong person got 'attached' in a wrong place. )

Are you talking about Ancestry World Tree, Public Member Tree or Private Member Tree? IF it is Ancestry World Tree and you put your tree in by uploading an URL, you can't but if you put the entries in one by one, you can. It will take them about 6 months to make the correction.

Ancestry.Com has more than one type of FamilyTrees. On Ancestry World Tree your corrections use to be done within a day or so but now it is taking much longer.

Contact the ones who run the site and check with them. I'm not sure since I've not entered my info there yet but someone there should be able to help you. Good luck.
