What possibly could be wrong? I know Family Search is free but why is this?

And no. Don't tell me there are microfilms. I know there are but online images are convenient and I already have started from the first image.

Some of FamilySearch's records are only available to "signed-in members of supporting organizations" - meaning members of the Mormon church and/or members of whichever organization holds the rights to those images. Some of these records were previously available to everyone, but have recently been restricted to certain people. This was the decision of the organization that owns the records, not of FamilySearch or the Mormons. I know, it's a real bummer. One collection that I had spent literally hundreds of hours helping index was later restricted, so I can't see them anymore. We can't really complain - after all, FamilySearch has more FREE records than anyone else - but I like to complain about it anyway.

These images are viewable:

To signed-in members of supporting organizations.

It said that after I signed in to my free non-LDS account. So, I guess they changed access permissions. That's why I keep all of my data in a Roots Magic database on my PC, not on their site or on Ancestry.com. It didn't say what a supporting organization was.

You might go to a Family History Center and see if someone there is a member of a supporting organization and willing to bring the record up long enough for you to transcribe it.

You have to create an account with familysearch and sign in to view some, and some are only available to LDS members
