I sent to South Dakota where she was to have been born and were told nobody by that name found. So I got on some of the genealogy sites and found stuff on her mothers family and still nothing found. VIOLET M.(or Marie) Irwin, was to have been born January 28,1929, in Pierre, Hughes County, South Dakota. Her mother was Edith Ellen Irwin. Do not know her father. Could have been a ? LARSEN. Unsure of this. I have just recently found out my moms mother was unmarried at that time. A Deb Hill has it all over the internet that Edith was married to this man and he was my moms father But She refuses to produce the Documents on this. And South Dakota has no records. It is also found on the LDS where Deb Hill has put my mother in as Viloet Marie Larsen. But I can not get any records about who her father might have been.

Hi!

Who's Violet M. Irwin? What does she have to do with Larson? Your question is really hyper-specialized and a bit confusing, so I'm not sure how much others here can help you.

I'm surprised that the county doesn't have any birth information for your mother. Perhaps some of your information is mistaken.

Make sure you know your Mom's maiden name and the correct spelling of it. Are you sure of which county she was born in?

Perhaps your Mom was adopted into your family, especially if her Mom was single and gave her up. In this case, she might have been born under a different last name: that of her mom's mom or perhaps even that of the your mom's apparently unknown father.

Families often hide embarassing facts in the family "closet" by conveniently "forgetting" them and/or they make up stories that seem more respectable. Perhaps your Mom's Mom's unwed status was such an embarassment. That's part of the intrigue and detective work of geneology.

The best that you can do is to find and interview any of your mom's surviving relatives and friends. Or if have any older siblings and cousins, perhaps one of themwill have another clue.

Good luck!

Where are you finding the Violet M. Larsen in the 1930 census? I find in 1930 Missouri Vernon County, Lake Twsp a

Edith Irwin, Sister-i-n Law, age 22, Single, born SD/father-MO/mother-NE under her is Violet M. Irwin, daughter, age 1 yr 2 mos, b. SD/father-SD/mother-SD. They are listed in the household of a William G (age 41 b. MO) and Alice E. (age 28 b. IA) Ochs and their 3 sons Leland E. 6, Weller 4, and Andrew I, 2 yr 11 mos. all born MO. So clearly Violet was born with mother's maiden name.

There is a family tree for William George Ochs and Alice Eleanor Irwin at Ancestry.

update. You might try LDS Church in Gregory County, SD where family lived. In SD 1925 state census Edith reports she belongs to the "Latter Day Saints" religion. They may have a birth record or blessing record for Violet.

If your grandmother was not married at the time of the birth it could be the records are sealed. You could write to the judge for the County and ask if any records are there to have them made available to you.

If you mother didn't have a birth certificate in order to obtain her SS, she may have had to have older relatives verify who she was and when she was born. Also, if she was born at home perhaps the birth was never registered.

Good luck with your search.
