Question:
Online Obituary suddenly gone, what happened?

I wanted to look up my Grandma's obituary yesterday to see if it showed where she was buried but I was unable to find her obituary anywhere.

It's not because it's just not online as I had looked it up in the past and even bookmarked the page but the bookmark is now nowhere to be found and while I can find the obituary of all other family members quite easily, hers is just not there.

I have checked both the funeral home where both her and my aunts funeral took place and the Perry County Online Obituaries (keyword searched name and for *ALL TIME*) only my aunt shows up (who had a different last name) and for both sites there are "no results found" for my Grandmas last name...it's kinda creeping me out and I'd like to know if anyone knows what happened?

It depends upon where you found it.

Obituaries are usually composed by someone at the funeral home from information provided by the next of kin -- unless the deceased is very famous, in which case newspapers may write an obituary and run it as a news item.

The obituary the funeral home writes is generally distributed to local newspapers in the deceased's hometown, in places the deceased lived for a long time, the place the deceased died, and so forth. Most newspapers charge to run an obituary, and the funeral home pays this and includes it in the cost of the funeral package.

Funeral homes and newspapers do not keep obituaries posted forever, at least not in the same place. They may move them from a "recent deaths" listing to an archive section or delete them altogether. Some particularly avaricious sites may charge extra to maintain the obituary and guest book.

In any case, links cannot not be relied upon, and you should save the whole text the first time you find it. The newspapers and funeral home may have an archive search box. If so, you should try that. General search engines like Google may or may not index archives too, but if the name has common parts you may not be able to find the link.

Websites change all the time, things are put on and taken off, so if it was taken down you will not find it........

You say you know where she died so working from that what local cemeteries are there locally where she could be buried, you need to contact those and ask. You can also look at newspapers for the area for the date year she died and see if you can find any mention in those

The older notices are taken down as newer ones go up. You may have to go down to the city clerk to find out how to get a copy. Too bad you didn't do a copy/paste into a Word document to save it.

It was probably archived. Best to keep a paper copy or a screen shot on hand.

She doesn't want you to know because she is afraid that you'll one day remember how she raped you.
