Born in the Bronx in 1909 to parents Robert and Esther Greenberg. Moved to Los Angeles, Ca by 1920. Still resided there in 1940. Robert Greenberg died in 1940, no next of kin information available at cemetery, but death certificate indicates wife and daughter lived with him in Los Angeles. How do I find records of what happened to them?

Who was born to Robert and Esther? Could Robert have been born Ruben?

(free) has this death record:

LAPHAM, ROSE

b. 08/30/1909 in NEW YORK

Mother: ROSEN

Father: GREENBERG

d. LOS ANGELES County 01/03/1980

If that was your Rose, you could try for an obituary, which would be tough unless you live there and can go to the library yourself. One of the genealogical societies might have someone who would look it up for a fee.

You might find Esther's death record there, too. If you try, be warned

1) You have to try date ranges for birth year one at a time.

2) The ads at the top sometimes ask for a name and take you to a pay site.

3) I'd use "Rosen*" for a father's surname, the asterisk to cope with possible truncation in Rose's record.

If her mother's maiden name is Rosen then this is her in CA Death Index:

Rose Lapham b. Aug 30, 1909 NY d. Jan 3, 1980 Los Angeles County, fathers name Greenberg, mothers maiden name Rosen.
