There are several Grand Lodges that support medical research. The Grand Lodge of NY has a world renowned medical Research lab in Utica NY which focus on diseases of the heart.
There ar no 'medical branches' of Freemasonry as Freemasonry is a Fraternity not a religion or place of worship of any other wacko thing the conspiracy nuts call it.
You do not have to be a Freemason to work for the medical research facilities, although I am sure it would help your resume if you were.
That being said personal gain is the absolute WRONG reason to join Masonry. So if this is all you are after I would suggest you find another way. If you value honor and honesty you cannot possibly answer the questions you will be asked before being elected to join the Fraternity.
Just for those folks like Angela, I will also include a primer on Freemasonry.
To explore the organization that some (very few, actually) so vehemently protest, we must first explain what Masonry IS! Here are some key points:
Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest Fraternity. While its traditions look back to earliest history, Masonry in its current form appeared when its public events were noticed by the residents of London, England in 1717. Although Masonry - particularly in its earliest days - had some elements of secrecy, the first 'exposure' of the supposedly highly-secret Masonic ritual actually appeared in 1696! Since that time, there have been tens of thousands of books published about this 'secret organization'. And for over three hundred years, despite the good works done by its members, Freemasonry has continually suffered the slings and arrows of those who seek to use it's quiet nature against it.
Freemasonry's singular purpose is to make good men better and its bonds of friendship, compassion and brotherly love have survived even the most divisive political, military and religious conflicts through the centuries. Freemasonry is neither a forum nor a place of worship. It is not a religion nor does it teach a religious philosophy. For nearly three hundred years it has attracted men of high moral character who support the tenets of temperance, fortitude, prudence and justice.
We're often asked, "What do Freemasons believe?" The answer is quite simple: essentially the same things that teachers, bus drivers, Rotarians, or anyone else believes. There is no 'requirement' that all Masons believe certain things except insofar as good behavior dictates.
As to the Illuminati lunacy that these fold spout, well the Illuminati was created by Adam Weishaupt in Bavaria, Germany in 1776 and was discovered, suppressed and disappeared by 1785-89. The hoax has been perpetrated over the centuries and now the conspiracy theorists have taken a bite out of this crap sandwich and refuse to admit that it tastes like crap.
Do they still exist? Apparently for some....
I was under the belief that no one with any degree of education would believe there was a secret organization plotting for some 200+ years to control the world - and that the Masons were somehow a part of it. Boy, was I wrong!
Whenever conspiracy theory is spouted, the mysterious "Illuminati" (along with the Bilderburgers, The Trilateral Commission, the Council of Foreign Relations, and a plethora of others) are most often named as being responsible. Ironically, however, while many, many people can name those ostensibly belonging to the other conspiracy groups, the "Illuminati" is always left hanging as some secret, shadowy entity which no one can quite describe. Interestingly too, no one can quite identify what specific acts can be attributed to them - everybody's got their own lists. And no one in 225+ years seems to have left the organization to reveal its secrets. Pretty powerful stuff..... (If you're not hearing the theme music for the X-Files right now, it's a CONSPIRACY!!!)
