Hi!
I am helping my mum put piece together our family tree.
We have been using a site called ancestry.co.uk which has given us registration and entry numbers for for the Birth, Marriage and Death certificates of family members.
How do we locate copies of these to help us trace the family back?
Any help you can give me would be appreciated sooo much

Thanks

You have to visit the General Register office site at

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Registration is free, but certificates have to be paid for.

The volume and page numbers are unique numbers used by the GRO as the others have told you. You can go to the Register office where the life event was registered they either give hand written certificates or typed ones, the GRO send photo copies of the certificate. My experience with them was that they weren't very good copies either..

What Duffer says is absolutely right - if you order them thro the GRO you will pay £7 per certificate.

A word of warning though - DONT order them through Ancestry, although it is a fantastic site for research they charge way over the odds for certificates. Ordering online from the GRO couldn't be easier
